Can we dig into this one a bit? This seems to be a foundational message as it is addressed early on by Bashar, Elan and also A Course In Miracles (ACIM). I would say the meaning given could actually be anything, but it's usually based on how this particular situation/event affects us, how it impacts or changes us. So, by our definitions we ascribe meaning usually based on our primary motivational program of moving toward what we perceive to be pleasurable and moving away from what we perceive as pain. The realization that we give it the meaning (and always have) changes the picture... it was us who gave the meaning so there is flexibility where before there wasn't.
Many years ago I was pulling out of my driveway when suddenly the car yanked and the front end gave out. Upon inspection, the tie rod which connects the two front tires had sheared off and was broken in two. "Oh no...Bummer!" Then I considered that within one minute I would have been traveling on the highway. "Oh wow! Good thing it happened here while I was in the driveway."... so the meaning shifted according to how I saw it... the circumstance remained the same...my tie rod broke. A major hassle was suddenly Divine Providence with a single shift in perception.... yet, it was the neutral event of a broken tie rod which was without meaning.
Now, the question is, about the distinction between meaning and purpose.
Often the purpose of something is more related to the synchronicity and interconnection of everything and that may not be immediately known. Yes? No?
What's the relationship between meaning and purpose? Do we ascribe purpose as well as meaning? I know we can bring purpose to actions according to our intention.
I see how we ascribe meaning and get the effect of that meaning, but the purpose may be something other than the meaning given. Can we see the purpose and then match the meaning to that? How about when we can't discern the purpose or it remains hidden until it is revealed?
